A walk round Hunstanton - The Formal Gardens
Just north of the Green, between Cliff Parade and the drop down to the sea
you will find the formal gardens.
They are excellently maintained with a pleasing but unostentatious
display of formal bedding.
The town war memorial is just at the entrance to the gardens.
Pause for a moment to remember all those who died in our wars.
Here, too is the memorial to those who lost their lives in the great flood
at the end of January 1953, when a very high tide and
a storm surge driven down the North Sea by ferocious winds combined to sweep
away coastal defences from a huge swathe of the East Coast.
The gardens themselves are a compact mix of traditional formal beds and grass
with the occasional exotic.
The bedding is scrupulously maintained all year but is a particular delight
in spring.
Walk on through the gardens and you will arrive at a playground.
For a shorter walk, continue ahead along the top of the cliffs to the
Cliff car-park.
But it's really not much further to turn right beside the playground, pass
by the bowling green and pitch-and-putt course,
cross the road at the top, Cliff Parade, and so
come to
the squares.
