A walk round Hunstanton - The North Promenade
The Promenade stretches from the ramp up the cliffs to the North to the old pier at the South. During the summer the beach at this point forms a centre for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. At appropriate states of the tide the sands are also ideal for sand-yachting and in the prevailing wind the updraught from the cliffs is used to good effect by hang-gliders.

The sailing club boat-park

There is an active sailing club based towards the south end of the Promenade, just north of the old pier.
The pier was built in 1870, and swept away by a storm in the 1960s. It was replaced with a rather uninspiring pier that was in turn washed away in January 1978, leaving just the pierhead. This burned down in 2002 and has been replaced by a more modern entertainment centre.
