A walk round Hunstanton - St. Edmund's Church
St. Emund's Church, Hunstanton; click to expand

This church was built in the very early days of the new town, between 1865 and 1875. At the time, the church of St. Mary's in Old Hunstanton was the mother church and the ground plan is similar, though the Lord of the Manor, Henry Styleman Le Strange, also influenced the design. The stained glass windows were made by "Faith Craft Works", mostly between 1954 and 1972.
The Church is dedicated to St. Edmund, a Christian King of East Anglia who was martyred by the Danes for refusing to deny his faith. Legend tells that he was shipwrecked on the coast at St. Edmund's point, about half a mile north of the town, more or less where the ruined priory bears his name.
The church has an external bell; click to expand

Take time to explore the Church, then walk through the grounds to cross Northgate. Go straight on down Cliff Terrace to the gardens.
